Infoblox Among First 200 Enterprises to Support DNS Security Extensions for .COM

Represents Another Milestone in Infoblox’s Ongoing Support of DNSSEC

Infoblox Inc., the DNS, DHCP and IPAM (DDI) market leader with the largest installed base of DNSSEC and IPv6-ready DDI appliances, today announced it is among the earliest adopters of the Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC) for its .COM domain, infoblox.com. This signing underscores Infoblox’s ongoing commitment to ensure DNS infrastructure security for the Internet.

The news comes on the heels of VeriSign’s announcement on March 31, 2011, that the world’s largest generic top-level domain, .COM, has completed full deployment of DNSSEC, a suite of IETF specifications for securing information provided by the Domain Name System (DNS). For .COM domain names, DNSSEC now adds an extra layer of security by enabling .COM website owners to digitally sign their domain name with DNSSEC keys.

Companies implementing DNSSEC will benefit by thwarting attacks like pharming, cache poisoning, DNS redirection and domain hijacking—all of which have been used to commit fraud and identity theft and distribute malware.

Matt Larson, Vice President of DNS Research at VeriSign (NASDAQ: VRSN), commented: “DNSSEC is an essential tool in addressing DNS vulnerabilities and mitigating DNS cache poisoning attacks that undermine the integrity of the DNS system. As an early adopter with its DNS products and now among the first 200 to sign its .COM domain, Infoblox is showing the leadership and initiative necessary to make this a truly successful community endeavor.”

Cricket Liu, Vice President of Architecture and Technology at Infoblox and author of O’Reilly Media’s best-selling series of books on DNS, added: “For the protection of everyone with a .COM domain, we are thrilled to finally see .COM, the largest top-level zone, support DNSSEC, and to see the number of registrants growing every day—only 90 million subdomains to go!”

Infoblox Solutions Enable Easy DNSSEC Adoption and Maintenance

Infoblox pioneered the first integrated DNS, DHCP and IPAM appliance counting more than 210 of the Global 500 as customers—by leveraging its unique Grid™ technology, a real-time data distribution and management capability that offers unparalleled resiliency, visibility, automation and control advantages for reliable, real-time service delivery.

As a long-time advocate of DNSSEC, Infoblox DDI appliance solutions are designed to deliver highly reliable, manageable and secure DNS services with built-in, automated DNSSEC features that replace manual key generation and zone signing with “one-click” or even “no-click” processes that sign zone data, roll over encryption keys, and distribute signed zones to all members of an Infoblox Grid. This can simplify deployment and management by saving significant administrative overhead and reducing repetitive, time-sensitive operations required to maintain DNSSEC.

Additionally, F5 Networks (NASDAQ: FFIV) and Infoblox offer a fully integrated and complete DNSSEC solution including a combination of Infoblox’s purpose-built appliances and F5® BIG-IP® Global Traffic Manager™ appliances optimized with hardware acceleration facilitating real-time, high performance signing of DNSSEC signature queries and global server load balancing functions, all supporting signed DNSSEC data. This provides customers a scalable, manageable, and secure DNS infrastructure that is equipped to withstand DNS attacks.

Finally, Infoblox hosts the DNS Security Center where valuable resources on DNS security best practices, related information and tutorials can be found to help organizations carry out a smooth transition to DNSSEC, protecting their organization and the overall integrity of the Internet.
